Giving Is Better Than Receiving!

Giving Is Better Than Receiving!

Those clever people at Forbes mag have been looking at how to be happy - or at least happier.  Here's No.2 on their 'Secret to Happiness' List.

2) Giving is Better than Receiving:  The Forbes articles states 'Few things provide a lasting sense of happiness and fulfillment like giving to others. There is very little you can do for yourself which will have the same effect as doing well by someone else. Keep this in mind next time you're wandering the mall, window shopping every store. Instead of seeking out things you may want to buy for yourself, go on a hunt to find the perfect item to surprise your best friend or significant other. Buy your mom a fresh bouquet of flowers or get your dad a new sleeve of golf balls. The experience of surprising a friend or loved one with an unexpected gift will not only make their day, but leave you feeling great about yourself, and that joy will last unlike your temporary excitement over a new watch.'

Awwww.  It's what the spirit of giving is all about.  Now go buy them that skydive they've always wanted!

No.1 was Buy Experiences NOT Things *skydiving is one such experience!

The Secret to Happiness? Spend Money on Experiences, Not Things

The Secret to Happiness? Spend Money on Experiences, Not Things

So says Forbes Magazine, the magazine for the rich and famous. According to an article published earlier this year, 'Recent research from San Francisco State University found that people who spent money on experiences rather than material items were happier and felt the money was better spent. Serena's year-long save for a skydive!

Not many 12 year olds can match the determination of Serena Wilson to reach a goal.

When Serena's dad, Darren had his surprise 40th birthday present revealed at Sunshine Coast Skydivers last May, he was less than delighted.

Expecting a 'surprise' fishing charter, Darren wasn't too sure he wanted to jump out of a perfectly good plane.  The then twelve-year-old Serena was more than ready to take his skydivng-place or at the very least, skydive along with him!

Luckily, once Darren got over his initial surprise, he decided to a) skydive b) that Serena, at 12, was too young to join him.

Did Darren enjoy his skydive?  I asked Therese Wilson, Darren's wife and the naughty surprise-skydive-springer.

"He did" laughs Therese, 'he said it was the best thing he'd ever done. I knew he would love it, that's why I surprised him with it for his birthday."

But that wasn't the only surprise.Serena wasn't acting on a whim when she offered to take her dad's place, nor was she about to let a little thing like parental disapproval stop her from having a tandem skydive.

"She made up her mind there and then she was going to do it" Therese Wilson told us this morning when she rang to book her daughter's skydive in for Sunday.

"Serena has been saving her pocket money for nearly a year and with the money she got for her 13th birthday yesterday, she's got the money to do it."

The Wilsons are now looking forward to seeing their very determined daughter take her well-earned tandem skydive on Sunday.  Well done Serena - we look forward to seeing you!

*the minimum age for a tandem skydive is 12 years (with parental permission)

What do Harry Styles, Justin Bieber, Dakota Fanning and Sunshine Coast Skydivers all have in common?

Q: So, what can Harry Styles, Justin Bieber, Dakota Fanning and Sunshine Coast Skydivers have in common?

A1. They all go skydiving at every opportunity!
A2. They were all 'born' in 1994
A3. They all share the motto "if you're not living on the Edge, you're taking up too much space"

A2: Harry Styles, Justin Bieber, Dakota Fanning and Sunshine Coast Skydivers, Caloundra were all 'born*' in 1994!   But actually, A1 and A3 could be true too!

Sunshine Coast Skydivers, Caloundra is proud to have been operating on the Sunshine Coast for 20 years in April 2014.  To keep updated on all the celebrations, events and offers, follow Sunshine Coast Skydivers on

Yay For Us! Sunshine Coast Skydivers is Twenty, yes 20!

Poor Tibor - this is his day job!
When Tibor Glesk, owner and Chief Instructor of Sunshine Coast Skydivers took his first tandem passenger skydiving in 1994 he had little idea that 20 years later Sunshine Coast Skydivers would have become one of Australia's premier Skydiving Centres.

In April 2014, Caloundra-based Sunshine Coast Skydivers will be twenty-years old, which we reckon is a milestone well-worth celebrating!

So during 2014, our 20th Anniversary year, Sunshine Coast Skydivers will be painting the sky, if not the town, red!

Join our 20th Anniversary Celebration!

We'd like to share the celebration with you.  After all, what good is a tandem skydive operation without the 100,000 or so of you of mad, crazy, brave, wonderful people who have happily jumped out of a perfectly good plane?

We're having lots of fun planning what we can do to celebrate throughout the year - there will be some fabulous offers (1994 prices perhaps?), some skydive giveaways (we'd love you to suggest some local charities we could help and highlight in 2014) and just some crazy Sunshine Coast Skydivers staff doing some perfectly ridiculous (probably airborne) things.

You can keep updated on all the celebrations via this blog, Facebook, Twitter, the Sunshine Coast Skydivers website and our e-newsletter.

Can you help us please?

Back when Sunshine Coast Skydivers started in 1994 (practically the digital dark ages) all your skydiving images were actual printed photographs (remember them?) and VHS videos!  Whilst we've got heaps of awesome digital images from the last 5 years or so - photos and videos from 1994 to 2004, not so many.

Did you (or someone you know) skydive with Sunshine Coast Skydivers between 1994 and 2004?

We would LOVE any of you who skydived with us in our early days to share your thoughts and photos with us (see below for contact details).

To thank everyone that responds, we'll put you into our 20th Anniversary draw to win one of 20 Beach Tandem Skydives with us - there will be a winner from every year we've been in operation - so please include the date (or at least the year) of your skydive with us!
